IPL 2018: Virat Kohli happy for Dinesh Karthik after KKR captaincy appointment
Dinesh Karthik has been appointed as the skipper of the Kolkata Knight Riders
Dinesh Karthik has had an eventful period over the past few months. He was drafted into the Indian team for India’s home series against Sri Lanka after which he played in the limited overs series against South Africa. Recently, he played a breezy knock against Bangladesh and helped India clinch victory from the jaws of defeat in the triangular T20I series.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli, the Indian skipper, has heaped praises on the Tamil Nadu cricketer and his leadership skills in a recent media interaction. Karthik has been selected as the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Kohli is delighted for the role he would be playing for the franchise.
Virat Kohli’s optimism for Dinesh Karthik
“I am very happy for him that he has been given this responsibility. He has a really good cricketing brain. I am sure he will do a good job for Kolkata,” he said. Meanwhile, Karthik also iterated the approach he would be employing while leading the side in the event.
Karthik will have massive shoes to fill as he will be replacing the two-time IPL winning-captain in Gautam Gambhir. “I will be looking to stay as calm as I can. Lot of times I am sure I will be put under the pump and I have to be able to react in a calm manner without getting too emotional about it.” he said.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli will be leading the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their opening game against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Last time around, the Knights bowled the Challengers out for a paltry score. However, it’s a new season altogether and both teams would be hoping to start their campaign on an impressive note.
