IPL 2019: Ajinkya Rahane fined for slow over-rate in the game against CSK
It was a day to forget for Rahane.
Nothing is going as planned for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. With an eight-run loss to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), they succumbed to their third defeat in as many matches and are languishing at the seventh position in the points table. Moreover, in all the three games, they were in the winning position and just failed to cling on to the close moments of the game.
However, more disappointment came in their way when their skipper Ajinkya Rahane was fined for slow over-rate offence after the match. It took almost two hours for the Royals to complete their quota after opting to bowl first. “As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Rahane was fined Rs 12 lakh,” the statement released by the IPL read.
A day to forget for Rahane
Ajinkya Rahane, after picking the top three wickets of the opposition, must have been delighted. But MS Dhoni ruined all their plans by playing a 75-run knock off just 46 balls to propel his team to 175 after 20 overs. The Royals needed a quick-fire start from their openers to overhaul the target. But Rahane bagged a duck much to the despair of his team. He was snaffled by Deepak Chahar with an outswinger.
Like their opponents, even the Royals lost the top three wickets early and were struggling at 14/3 at one stage. But Ben Stokes and Rahul Tripathi gutted it out to keep their team in the hunt right until the last over. The former was dismissed by Dwayne Bravo off the first ball of the 20th over to kill all the hopes of the visiting team and kept the Rajasthan Royals winless after three matches.
