IPL 2019 Auction: Rajasthan Royals sign the players they were looking for
Unadkat’s bid stole the show as for second time in a row he became the most expensive Indian buy in the auction.
What seemed to be an easy buy for Rajasthan Royals, turned out to be quite a gripping bidding war as Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab put up quite a fight in order to purchase the Indian fast bowler- Jaydev Unadkat. Unadkat’s bid stole the show as for second time in a row he became the most expensive Indian buy in the auction. Rajasthan Royals played their cards judiciously to ensure that they don’t lose out on this worthy team member.
Rajasthan Royals fought all the way for Unadkat with Delhi Capitals first and then Chennai Super Kings. With a base price of 1.5 cr, the bid just kept surging. CSK went up to Rs. 5.2 cr before dropping out but KXIP joined in at 6.2cr that further increased the stake. RR raised the bid to 8.4 cr which was enough for KXIP to cave in and for Royals to have their first buy from the auction.
RR resign Unadkat
The left-arm pacer from Saurashtra, who has also appeared for a Test for India in 2010, has had an impressive track record. At a high price of Rs. 8.4cr, he is one of the best Indian pace options available for his skills with the old and the new ball. His consistent performances for Saurashtra have also kept him popular in the IPL auctions.
Rajasthan had another great buy with fast bowler Varun Aaron. He hasn’t played the IPL before but still had Delhi Capitals m and Rajasthan Royals vying for him. With a Base Price set at Rs. 50L, his services were purchased at a price of 2.4 cr by the team.
In a bid to complete their squad, Royals purchased some more significant players which included, Windies fast bowler Oshane Thomas (1.1 cr) and all-rounders Shashank Singh (30Lacs) Shubham Ranjane (20Lacs) from India and Liam Livingstone (50Lacs) from England.
Towards the end, all teams were asked to put in 3 names into an envelope and share it with the organizers for another accelerated round of auction. Rajasthan Royals were the sole bidders for three outstanding young talent that they bagged- batsman Manan Vohra (20Lacs) and all-rounders Ashton Turner (50Lacs) and Riyan Parag (20Lacs).
Commenting on the auction, Rajasthan Royals Lead Owner Manoj Badale said, “It has been an exciting day for us from getting Jaydev back in the team to picking up the talented seamer Oshane Thomas from West Indies. We are very pleased to have filled the gaps in the team that were part of our strategy. We can’t wait for the season to begin and watch our young Royals perform on the field.”
