IPL 2019: BCCI ACU approaches Vadodara Police in Tushar Arothe betting case
More than 20 mobile phones have been seized by the police.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) is currently in progress and the betting scandals getting caught during the tournament is quite normal. But this time around, a prominent name has come under the scanner and he is none other than Tushar Arothe, the former head coach of India Women’s team. The team had made it to the final of ICC Women’s World Cup under his tutelage.
However, Arothe is now in troubled waters as he was arrested by the Vadodara Police in connection with the IPL betting case a couple of days ago. He was arrested along with 18 other people during a raid in the cafe according to DCP, Crime Branch, JS Jadeja.
“We arrested Tushar Arothe along with 18 other persons during a raid at a cafe. Their phones & vehicles have been seized,” Jadeja had said then.
BCCI ACU set to investigate the matter
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) seems to be looking into this matter now as a former head coach is involved in it. The BCCI’s Anti Corruption Unit (ACU) has approached the Vadodara Police to fetch more details in the case according to the local newspaper. Also, more than 20 mobile phones have been seized by the police, the report added.
It remains to be seen if the BCCI takes any strict action in case Tushar Arothe is found guilty in the betting case. The board has previously come down hard at the cricketers who were caught in the spot-fixing back in IPL 2013. Though the Supreme Court had released them citing lack of evidence, the BCCI denied lifting life bans on them stating that they have enough evidence in the matter.
As far as Arothe is concerned, he had stepped down from the head coach position of the Indian Women’s team in the wake of his growing differences with the senior cricketers in the team.
