IPL 2019: Ben Stokes calls Moeen Ali a legend after his last over antics against KKR
Ali managed to defend the 24 runs and won the match for RCB by 10 runs and also affected a run out of Russell.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore team registered their second win in the ongoing IPL 2019, as they defeated KKR at the Eden Gardens. This was all possible due to Moeen Ali’s 66 and skipper Virat Kohli’s sublime 100, which was his fifth century in the IPL. Their contributions led the team to 213 runs batting first.
While chasing, KKR’s top four surrendered quietly and then it all came down to Nitish Rana and Andre Russell, who added 118 runs for the fifth wicket, as Rana slammed 85* and Russell made 65 in 25 balls, to take KKR within 10 runs of the target. The onus of defending 24 runs in the last over fell on Moeen Ali, as he went up against Russell and Ali who were on a rampage.
Ali brings Ben Stokes into the discussion with Steyn
However, Ali managed to defend the 24 runs and won the match for RCB by 10 runs and also affected a run out of Russell. After the match, Dale Steyn got together with Ali to talk about how the last over went down. During the conversation, Steyn asked Ali whether he remembered when was the last time someone from England needed to defend 24 runs in the last over, right here at the Eden Gardens.
Ali smiled wide and replied, yes, he did remember as it was England against West Indies in the finals of the World T20 2016, whose final was played at Edens and Ben Stokes was bowling the last over, facing Carlos Brathwaite when WI needed 20 odd runs. Brathwaite proceeded to hit Stokes for four sixes off the last four deliveries and West Indies became the first two-time World T20 champions.
He further said that he had given Stokes a lot of stick for failing to defend those runs in the World T20 final match against the Windies and said that had he failed to defend the same against Rana and Russell, Stokes would have made life difficult for him as well.

Ben Stokes reacted to the conversation on Twitter saying “😂😂 what a legend”
