It was the worst possible way to begin an IPL campaign for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, who got humiliated in the hands of the defending champions Chennai Super Kings. With the ball turning vociferously off the deck and troubling the batters profusely, the game had many hilarious moments. But among them all, Kedar Jadhav escaped a pretty precarious situation thanks to some comedy of errors.

In the 10th over of the second innings, Moeen Ali’s delivery on the fifth stump line was nudged gently towards the leg side by Jadhav. The Maharashtra cricketer kept walking to the other end for a single, but Ambati Rayudu at the other end didn’t consider a run. The duo realized very late that they were in a spot of bother as Rayudu was at the non-striker’s end and Jadhav was halfway down.

The keeper, leg slip and the fielder at short mid-wicket were converging towards the ball, but a slight fumble by Yuzvendra Chahal gave Jadhav ample time to return to the safe side. By the time AB de Villiers, who was at leg slip, returned the ball at the striker’s end, the batsman had reached his destination. Some poor communication between the cricketers almost led to a horrendous run-out, only denied by a poor fielding effort.

A dismal start for the star-studded unit

The Challengers failed to throw a challenge, putting up just 70 runs on the board batting first. Parthiv Patel was the only batsman in their in XI to have registered double digits in the innings and he nearly carried his bat out, before becoming the 10th and final victim of the innings to Dwayne Bravo.

Their bowlers though did throw some fight to the opposition, dragging the game till the very end. Yuzvendra Chahal gave away just 6 runs in his 4 overs and the other bowlers tried rallying around him, but all they could do was drag the game till the 18th over.
