IPL 2019: David Warner and Sanju Samson appreciate each other's knock after the match
Both lit up Hyderabad with their blistering knock on Friday.
Sanju Samson and David Warner have emerged as two contenders for the Orange Cap after yesterday’s match in which the Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to chase down the Rajasthan Royals’ massive total en route to a 5-wicket victory at home. The two masterful stroke players got candid in a tete-a-tete for IPL’s official website discussing their batting strategies on the match, discussing their somewhat different batting tactics as they posted brilliant individual innings.
The eighth match in the IPL 2019 between the Royals and the Sunrisers proved to be an exciting contest with masterful batting displays on show from both the sides. The Royals rode on Samson’s brilliant century to post a massive total of 201 from their 20 overs. The diminutive wicket-keeper became only the fourth Indian to score multiple IPL centuries, smashing an unbeaten 102 with able support from captain Ajinkya Rahane’s stellar 70.
Two stars have a convo after the match
However, the Sunrisers responded brilliantly to chase down the score in 19 overs with help from a blistering 37-ball-69 by David Warner, as well as cameos from Jonny Bairstow and Vijay Shankar. Warner got going from the onset, and at one time it seemed that the score would be chased down much quicker than they eventually did. The two stars discussed how they responded to the wicket after the match.
In the video, Sanju Samson talks about how in the first innings, batting was slightly more difficult with the ball not coming on as well to the bat, as a result, he and Rahane took their time to settle in, before conditions improved and he could get going. However, the wicketkeeper cheekily added, “But you destroyed my day, even my 100 was not enough!… It (Warner’s knock) was special.”
Warner meanwhile, spoke about his mentality to get off to a good start while chasing such a mammoth total. “The adrenaline was running, and you’re in a mood”, was what Warner had to say off the swashbuckling innings that saw him wrest the Orange Cap off of Samson’s head. He also appreciated Samson’s knock, calling it a “fantastic innings”.
