IPL 2019: Five teams that should target Shimron Hetmyer

Many expected the ongoing India-Windies ODI series to be a one-sided affair, but a certain left-handed batsman by the name of Shimron Hetmyer had other ideas. These two players have made a prolific difference in the side and thanks to their contribution, the visiting team has given Virat Kohli’s men a run for their money. Shimron Hetmyer has been particularly impressive with his aggressive intent. He is another one of those typical Caribbean batsmen, who has the Calypso DNA running through his shots and has the crowd-pulling ability. In the four games thus far, he has notched 250 runs which include a hundred and a fifty. He certainly has done enough to catch the eyes of the IPL franchises, who are currently validating and short-listing the names which should be released from the squad. Hetmyer will be one of the hottest prospects in the auction and it will be interesting to see how big he can go with his price. Here are five teams who might need his services in the upcoming season. 1. Royal Challengers Bangalore Shimron Hetmyer. But acquiring Shimron Hetmyer, who is in a way reminiscent of an RCB legend Chris Gayle, can work wonders in the long term. They can use him as an opener and as a middle-order batsman and surely, he is capable of batting well on Indian tracks. The Bangalore franchise currently has players like Brendon McCullum, who is aging and is not at his best anymore. Looking into the future, Hetmyer might be best suited in this lineup and if he can instantly start performing well, the title drought might as well come to an end for the big club. 2. Sunrisers Hyderabad Shimron Hetmyer of Guyana Amazon Warriors. Manish Pandey was roped in for a hefty amount in the last season, but the Karnataka batsman failed to stamp his authority for the eventual runner-ups. If they wish to go one step further, they might have to rope in someone like Hetmyer, who can give them some solidity in the middle order. With rumors of Shikhar Dhawan planning to leave the club, he could be a perfect replacement for him as well, but if the SRH get him in, they will need him in the middle order. 3. Chennai Super Kings Shimron Hetmyer and Shai Hope. (Photo Source: Twitter) The three-time IPL champions and hands down the greatest side in this tournament’s history, Chennai Super Kings picked a side which was good enough to win the title last time, but they have to alter a lot as the side doesn’t seem good enough for this edition. A lot of senior and retired cricketers were roped in by MS Dhoni for adding experience to the lineup. The move was worth its weight in diamond for one year, but now they need someone like Hetmyer. They have too many injury prone cricketers like Faf du Plessis, Kedar Jadhav, and Dwayne Bravo and for that, to have a young, exuberant and fit cricketer like the 21-year-old from Guyana can work wonders. 4. Too much reliance on KL Rahul and Chris Gayle to get the runs didn’t help the side, who started off on a huge note but ended up not qualifying for the playoffs. They recently swapped Mandeep Singh from RCB in exchange of Marcus Stoinis. Shimron Hetmyer’s addition to the side can add some firepower to the lineup, which they need quite desperately. Gayle is not getting any younger as well and if they decide to not play the Caribbean legend as an opener, they might as well try him in that position. 5. Rajasthan Royals Shimron Hetmyer. (Photo Source: Twitter) A team that has always nourished and encouraged young talents, Rajasthan Royals will definitely have an eye on this youngster. Over the years, they played a crucial role in the rise of Sanju Samson, James Faulkner, Ajinkya Rahane in the limited overs and many others. Hypothetically assuming Hetmyer does get into RR, it will be a little tricky for them to accommodate him in the XI as Steve Smith too will be back next season. But there’s a good chance that they’ll let Heinrich Klaasen leave the club after a mediocre performance, which might create some room for the Guyanese.
