IPL 2019: Hardik Pandya will be the key for Mumbai Indians against SRH, feels Rohan Gavaskar
Pandya has been the top performer for Mumbai at least with the bat.
The Mumbai Indians face Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 51st match of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2019 season. The match is scheduled to be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and the home team is hopeful of winning it and confirming their spot in the playoffs, which begin from May 7. Mumbai Indians have been heavily dependent on the likes of Quinton de Kock, Kieron Pollard, and Hardik Pandya to score runs.
The fact that skipper Rohit Sharma, Evin Lewis, Ishan Kishan, Yuvraj Singh, and Suryakumar Yadav have all failed to get going despite getting some starts. Hardik has been the most impressive of them all, as he shredded his image of being a marauder of spinners, taking the fast bowlers to the task as well.
Rohan Gavaskar feels Hardik will be the key to MI’s win
Former India and Bengal player Rohan Gavaskar has opined that for Mumbai to win this key match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Hardik Pandya will have to perform like he has been doing all this while. The last time these two teams met, SRH was bowled out on 96 in Hyderabad, chasing MI’s 137-run target, all thanks to debutant Alzarri Joseph’s IPL record bowling figures of 6/12.
“Hardik Pandya has been in terrific form, and I think he will be the key in the game tomorrow as well,” Rohan was quoted as saying by CricketNext. Pandya has so far added 355 runs in 12 innings with a strike rate of 198.32 and has hit 27 sixes so far.
Mumbai Indians have one more game after this to play, but need to win just one to confirm their spots in the playoffs which already has the Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals at no.1 and no.2 spots respectively. Mumbai was defeated in their last encounter by KKR, who amassed 232 runs. But Hardik helped the MI team lessen the quantum of defeat by slamming a quick-fire 91 runs.
“The equation is simple; MI wins and they qualify. have 60%-win percentage at Wankhede. This is home ground, fortress, the crowd gets behind them. So, they will make sure they win, get the two points and qualify for the final four and assure their place in top four,” Gavaskar further said.
