IPL 2019: Hottest picks in the auction

The auctions of the previous editions took place in Bangalore and Mumbai respectively, but this time around it’s taking place in Jaipur. Even as there has been a number of big players going for big money, many unknown names have also been able to bag the big bucks. Many massive names like speedster Dale Steyn, Adam Zampa, Chris Woakes, and Martin Guptill didn’t find any buyers, which raised a lot of eyebrows. In the meantime, Yuvraj Singh, the discarded Indian all-round cricketer who has been a stupendous player throughout his cricketing career, also went unsold. Here we look at some of the biggest buys at the auction thus far. Shimron Hetmyer- 4.2 crores- RCB The Windies batsman was listed at a base price of 50 lakhs, but he didn’t go big and was eventually picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at a price of INR 4.20 crore. The Guyana-batsman has been in incredible form in all forms of cricket and the big bucks didn’t spring a surprise. Varun Chakaravarthy- 8.4 crores- KXIP The Tamil Nadu cricketer has been in prime form in the recent times. He was impressive in the Tamil Nadu Premier League and then went on to do well in the Vijay Hazare Trophy as well. He was listed at a base price of INR 20 lakhs and he was picked up by Kings XI Punjab at a price of INR 8.4 crores. Shivam Dube- 5 crore- RCB The Mumbai all-rounder has had an incredible time of late in India’s domestic circuit. He can tonk the ball a fair distance and can also crank up the face with the ball in hand. He was listed at a base price of INR 20 lakhs and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) shelled out a significant 5 crore. Jaydev Unadkat- 8.4 crore- RR The Porbandar-born speedster didn’t do well with the leather in hand in the last IPL, yet was listed at a base price of INR 1.50 crore. Nevertheless, things went in his favour and Rajasthan Royals (RR) picked him up for a humungous 8.4 crores. A lot of focus would be on the left-arm speedster. Axar Patel– 5 crore- DCS The spin-bowling all-rounder has a decent record in the T20 tournament. He is more than an effective spinner and can be effective with the bat as well. After being released by Kings XI Punjab, he was listed in the auction at a base price of 1 crore and was subsequently bagged by Delhi Capitals. Carlos Brathwaite- 5 crore- KKR The hulk-like all-rounder didn’t get many chances for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and was thereafter released by the franchise. He was then listed at a base price of 75 lakhs and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) picked up the experienced Windies T20 captain at a substantial price of INR 5 crore. Colin Ingram- 6.40 crores- DCS The Proteas left-handed batsman is a veteran in the T20 format and has tasted success across the globe. He was one of the marquee players and was listed at a base price of INR 2 crore. Teams went all out for him and eventually, it was Delhi Capitals, who roped him in at a price of INR 6.40 crores. Sam Curran- 7.20 crores- KXIP The English all-rounder has had an incredible year thus far. He was listed at a base price of INR 2 crore and was one of the hottest buys at the auction. Delhi Capitals started the bidding and after an intense bidding, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) bagged his services at a significant price of INR 7.20 crores.
