IPL 2019: Injury concerns for Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi Capitals
The head coach Ricky Ponting confirmed the injuries to a couple of players.
The ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) edition has been a mixed bag so far the Delhi Capitals (DC). Nevertheless, the team has already shown signs of improvement and is in the hunt to make it to the playoffs. So far they’ve played six matches and have won three out of it. The road ahead is challenging for them and the injury concerns in the team are not making it easy for them either.
The talented cricketer Harshal Patel has been ruled out of the tournament. He sustained an injury to his right hand during the game against the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and will take close to 3-4 weeks to recover. Also, the Delhi Capitals were looking at Manjot Kalra to rope into the playing XI but even he is injured and will have to pass the fitness test to play against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Friday.
“He has suffered a fracture in his right hand in the game against Kings XI (on April 1). It took us a few days to actually get to the bottom of that fracture. He’s had some X-Rays. He’s been ruled out for three-four weeks which basically ruled him out of the tournament.
We need to find a replacement. We need him (Kalra) to pass a full fitness test today. So that’s the reason we’ve got as many guys here on trial,” DC head coach Ricky Ponting said in the pre-match press conference.
Tough road ahead for Delhi
Delhi Capitals have got their task cut out on Friday as they will face the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens as the return fixtures have begun in the IPL. Last time, the two teams met at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in Delhi, the Capitals had got the better of KKR in a thrilling super over. Kagiso Rabada was the man to hog the limelight as he delivered a brilliant yorker to Andre Russell and sealed the game for his team.
