IPL 2019: Jofra Archer trolls Sussex Sport for mistaking him with Chris Jordan
Sussex was quick to realise the blunder and they immediately deleted the tweet to post a new one.
Rajasthan Royals (RR), captained by Ajinkya Rahane, couldn’t progress beyond the Eliminator last season owing to defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens. However, they had some standout performers one of them was the 23-year-old fast bowler Jofra Archer, who is currently in the process of attaining eligibility of playing for England in international cricket.
Prior to the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), he had an exceptional season for Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League (BBL). The speedster was listed in the auction at the base price of INR 40 lakhs, but franchises went after him with all their might. After a severe bidding war, the Royals eventually shelled out a whopping INR 7.2 crore for the Barbados-born cricketer.
Sussex makes a mistake
The pacer couldn’t play the first few matches courtesy of the back injury. However, once he started playing, he wielded his magic with the leather in hand. His Yorkers turned out to be a lethal weapon as opponents found it difficult to take Archer for runs. The youngster plied his trade in 10 matches in the tournament and ended up with 15 wickets with best figures of 3/22.
Quite expectantly, being the team’s standout bowler, Archer has been retained for the upcoming edition as well. In the meantime, Sussex Sport, a team for which he plays in the English domestic circuit, wished him. But they made a mistake and posted Chris Jordan’s picture.
Jordan, also born in Barbados, played for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) last season and has been released ahead of the auction. Archer was pretty quick to spot the mistake and he replied by writing, “That was quick”.
