IPL 2019: Kings XI Punjab trolls Delhi Capitals after Sam Curran picks up a hat-trick
The Capitals collapsed like anything to give away the game.
Tuesday’s clash between the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and Delhi Capitals (DC) was turning out to be a pretty one-sided affair in the favour of the latter. Shreyas Iyer’s decision to bowl first turned out to be spot on as the visitors came up with a fine show to restrict the opponents to a modest total of 166 for 9 on a belter of a pitch. Chris Morris and Sandeep Lamichhane gave Delhi a flying start by dismissing KL Rahul and Sam Curran respectively to reduce Kings XI 36 for 2 inside 4 overs.
KXIP kept losing wickets at crucial junctures which pretty much robbed the innings of momentum. The likes of Sam Curran, David Miller, Sarfaraz Khan got the starts but failed to capitalise. Kings XI would have probably felt that they had lost the game after posting the modest total. Those apprehensions would have only increased as the game progressed. Ravi Ashwin gave them a good start by dismissing Prithvi Shaw for a duck but Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer laid the foundation for a chase with a quick stand of 61.
Rishabh Pant and Colin Ingram soon took charge of the chase and went on to share a fifty-plus stand. The Delhi Capitals were comfortably placed at the end of the sixteenth over, needing 30 runs off 24 balls and seven wickets in hand. The game was Delhi’s to lose and they did. The Shreyas Iyer-led side suffered an inexplicable collapse, losing seven wickets for just eight runs in the space of 17 balls to lose the match by 14 runs.
Curran was the star for Kings XI Punjab, turning the game with a sensational spell. Ashwin handed him the ball in the 18th over and he made a quick mark by picking up two wickets. On the first two deliveries of the 20th over, he picked up two more wickets to complete a sensational hat-trick and end the game with stunning figures of 4 for 11 from just 2.2 overs.
Kings XI Punjab troll back Delhi Capitals:
As soon as the game ended, Kings XI Punjab avenged for the trolling they were subject to in the first innings of the game. After Sandeep Lamichhane had dismissed Curran, Delhi Capitals had posted a cheeky tweet, writing, “San > Sam”. Kings XI Punjab, however, had the last laugh as they wrote, “>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> You forgot he bowls too,” after Sam Curran took a hat-trick.
