IPL 2019: Kolkata Police send a message after Ravi Ashwin ‘Mankads’ Jos Buttler
It iterated the disadvantages of crossing the line.
A couple of days ago, there was a massive controversy in the match between hosts Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The incident took place between Ravi Ashwin, the KXIP captain, and Jos Buttler, the Royals’ opening batsman, when the home team was going great guns and looking good while chasing down 185 in 20 overs.
The Englishman was batting on 69 runs when the occurring took place. Ashwin showed great presence of mind and ‘mankaded’ him. Subsequently, he appealed and that surprised Buttler somewhat. Thereafter, Buttler was adjudged out by the umpire and he had to go back to the hut, venting his frustration out. He didn’t even maintain an eye-contact with the Indian offie while hand-shaking.
Kolkata Police sends a message
The cricketing fraternity lashed out at the Punjab captain for the unsportsmanlike behaviour. They also questioned him for not showing conduct as per the Spirit of Cricket. Later, Ravi Ashwin said that his actions were completely instinctive and he believed that it wasn’t questionable by any stretch of the imagination. Royals’ ambassador Shane Warne also criticised the cricketer.
Nevertheless, Ravi also got support from the likes of Rahul Dravid and Mitchell Johnson, both of whom mentioned that Ashwin didn’t cheat. Yesterday, the MCC came out with a statement, saying that Ashwin didn’t break the laws of the game, neither did he do something out of the Spirit of the Game. The statement said that the rule is to stop batsmen from backing up too much.
In the meantime, Kolkata Police came up with a hilarious message on the saga. It uploaded a picture on the social media, iterating the disadvantages of crossing the line. It’s official Twitter handle took to Twitter and wrote in Bengali, the translation of which is: “Crease or road, you will regret, if you cross the line.”
