IPL 2019: Marquee players for tournament announced
The auction is also scheduled to take place on Tuesday, December 18 in Jaipur.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been a witness to some riveting encounters over the years and the same is expected to take place even in the upcoming edition of the mega tournament. The forthcoming edition of the IPL is expected to start on March 29, but the same can also be postponed bearing in mind the fact the World Cup in England and Wales is set to start on May 30.
The venue for the event is also undecided as, during April and May, India most probably won’t be able to host the same as the general elections will take place during that time of the year. South Africa and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are being contemplated as the alternate venues. The auction is also scheduled to take place on Tuesday, December 18 in Jaipur.
Some massive names in the list
In the meantime, as per an email sent to the franchises on Monday, which ESPNcricinfo has accessed, the names of marquee players (cricketers with a base price of INR 2 crore) have been released. Sam Curran, the English all-rounder, has captured the supporters’ imaginations in the last few months. He hasn’t made his T20I debut just yet, but he undoubtedly has the prowess to do so.
Brendon McCullum, the former New Zealand cricketer, who was earlier released by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is another player up for grabs in the marquee list. Age might be catching up with the Black Cap, but he still has plenty left in the tank.
Lasith Malinga was on the Mumbai Indians’ (MI) coaching staff last year would take part in the auction as well. Australian Shaun Marsh, who made a name for himself playing the IPL itself, would feature in the auction as well.
Here is the list
Corey Anderson, Sam Curran, Colin Ingram, Lasith Malinga, Shaun Marsh, Angelo Mathews, Brendon McCullum, D’Arcy Short, Chris Woakes, Eoin Morgan
