IPL 2019 – Match 10: Delhi Capitals vs Kolkata Knight Riders – DC Predicted Playing XI

Delhi Capitals (DC) got through in their first game against Mumbai Indians courtesy Rishabh Pant’s exploits. But in the second match against the Chennai Super Kings, many of their flaws got exposed. The team got off to a good start while playing at the Feroz Shah Kotla. But, they didn’t finish as well as they’d have expected.

The Capitals are short of a reliable finisher in their eleven and also need to strengthen their bowling slightly. Thus, this might prompt a few changes in their eleven for their upcoming game against the Kolkata Knight Riders. While playing at home will be a boost for them, they will have to be wary of the opposition who have registered back-to-back wins in the tournament thus far.

Here is the Predicted Playing XI for Delhi Capitals (DC):

Openers (Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan)

Prithvi Shaw has been getting off to good starts in the tournament. But on both the instances he played this year, the youngster failed to convert the knocks into big ones. Shaw should look to spend as much time as possible rather than trying to play shots of every ball. He could be quite destructive even if he manages to stay in the middle till the end of the 10th over.

Shikhar Dhawan’s homecoming to the Delhi Capitals has been quite disappointing. He is sure scoring runs alright but is getting them at a very slow pace. This is putting undue pressure on the other batsmen including his opening partner Prithvi Shaw. Dhawan should try to score quickly if he is to make a difference to the side.

Middle Order (Shreyas Iyer (c), Colin Ingram, Rishabh Pant (wk))

Shreyas Iyer had a good outing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy but hasn’t really got going as yet in the IPL. He played an uncharacteristic knock against CSK and struggled hard to pile up runs. He will continue to bat at three and will have a big role to play against KKR. He should look to lead the team from the front.

Colin Ingram and Rishabh Pant are the other two batsmen in the middle-order. Both of them are terrific cricketers in the shortest format of the game and can turn the game around in a matter of few deliveries. Rishabh Pant has been terrific so far but should also look to bat with a little more responsibility. He can surely clear the boundary with ease but needs to analyse the situation of the game as well.

All Rounders (Chris Morris, Axar Patel)

Keemo Paul has done nothing wrong in the two games he played so far. But there are only four overseas players allowed in an eleven and you would want them to create the maximum impact. Thus, DC might try out Chris Morris in the next game as he has returned from South Africa and will be available for selection. He bats well and can deliver a few good overs with the ball.

Axar Patel bowled a great spell in the last match. He hit the right areas and conceded just 16 runs in his four overs despite going for a few runs in his first over. The southpaw has been in good batting form as well and should enjoy bowling on the sluggish Delhi track.

Bowlers (Sandeep Lamichhane, Amit Mishra, Kagiso Rabada, Ishant Sharma)

It was quite surprising to see DC play just three overseas players in the last game. But for the next match, they are likely to rope in Sandeep Lamichhane instead of Rahul Tewatia. The pitch has some assistance for the spinners and Tewatia hasn’t lived up to the expectations. He will be sharing the spin duties with Amit Mishra who was highly impressive in the last match.

Ishant Sharma and Kagiso Rabada will continue to be the two pacers. DC might not play Trent Boult at home as there isn’t a great deal of assistance for pacers. Ishant should work on restricting the run flow in the powerplay. Rabada, on the other hand, is delivering the required goods and has been the best bowler for DC.
