The lack of intent cost Rajasthan Royals as their total of 139/3 was comfortably chased down by the Kolkata Knight Riders with 6.1 overs to spare. Steven Smith’s unbeaten 59-ball 73 anchored the RR innings which never witnessed the acceleration. Chris Lynn rode his luck to a 50 and added 91 runs in only 8.3 overs with Sunil Narine (45). The visiting team took 5.2 more overs for the remaining 49 runs and register their 4th win of the season.

Here are lesser known stats recorded during Kolkata Knight Riders’ comfortable victory:

Wasting resources:

A total of 139 is always low in the Twenty20 format and it looks worse when teams ended up with such a score despite keeping wickets in hand. The Rajasthan Royals recorded one such instance on Sunday night as they finished with 139 despite losing only three wickets while batting first. This is now the lowest total by the first batting side in the IPL at the loss of three or fewer wickets.

In the 2012 season, the Pune Warriors India finished with 146/2 while playing against the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals). Pune were 2/2 after 1.2 overs before Manish Pandey (80*) and Robin Uthappa (60*) added an unbeaten 144-run stand in 112 balls. Delhi chased down the target of 147 with four overs and 8 wickets to spare.

Andre Russell’s special in Jaipur:

In his career, Andre Russell has played two matches at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur – in 2018 and 2019 against Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. Interestingly, Russell didn’t get a chance with the bat and also with the ball. In fact, on Sunday, Russell didn’t make any contribution on the field either. He did take a catch during the 2018 season fixture.

A 140-run chase with six overs to go:

Chasing a target of 140, the Kolkata Knight Riders completed the chase with 37 deliveries to spare. Only on three occasions a team successfully chased 140+ with six or more overs to spare. All those three chases were recorded during the 2008 season only. Delhi Daredevils chased 143 with 7 overs remaining and the Deccan Chargers who later chased down 155 with 8 overs to spare against Mumbai Indians.

Mumbai Indians completed the chase of 157 in 13.5 overs against the Chennai Super Kings. The CSK team chased exactly 140 runs during the 2010 season with 39 balls (6.3 overs) to spare. Interestingly, every time the teams on the receiving end of a 140+ chase with 6+ overs to spare recorded the next such instance.
