IPL 2019: Match 30, SRH vs DC - Who Said What

The Delhi Capitals (DC) are in some form this season. They registered their fourth away win from five matches as the visitors took down the flamboyant Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) line-up in their own den. Chasing the total of 156 runs, the SRH were well placed at 72/0 and then 101/2. But then they lost 8/15 in 23 balls to get bundled out for just 116 runs in the penultimate over.

David Warner and Jonny Bairstow were the only batsmen to cross the double figures on the day for the home team. The duo added 72 runs for the first wicket in the less than 10 overs and halfway through the chase it seemed like SRH were cantering towards the victory. But Keemo Paul started the collapse for them by breaking into the ever-unsettled middle-order of the opposition.

Once Warner was dismissed who had to play a big shot with the required run-rate soaring, all hell broke loose for SRH and they were never in the game. The likes of Kagiso Rabada and Chris Morris literally ran through their batting line-up to hand over the Capitals a grand win of 39 runs.

Iyer and Munro propel Delhi

The story for the Delhi Capitals was also the same during their innings. After losing a couple of early wickets, they looked set for a total close to 170. After being at 20/2, Shreyas Iyer and Colin Munro stitched a 49-run stand to rebuild the innings and then Rishabh Pant joined the skipper to take the total up to 125.

But both the batsmen were dismissed in the space of three deliveries and the visitors never got the final flourish. The SRH bowlers Khaleel Ahmed and Bhuvneshwar Kumar delivered on the day to restrict the opposition to 155 runs for the loss of seven wickets. But the score, in the end, proved to be enough as Delhi Capitals climbed to the second position in the points table.

Man of the Match, Keemo Paul said:

First all of thanks to God. I just tried to adapt to the wicket. I just bowled to suit the wicket. This game is all about confidence. I have not been getting much to contribute with the bat so wanted to contribute more. This is for the friends, family and all my team mates.

Delhi Capitals skipper, Shreyas Iyer said:

We are believing so. It started to slow down. Me and Pant had decided so that one of us will take the charge. We got a little cameo from Keemo and Axar and helped us get to that total. We have played together. It is good to be around each other. It is easy to have that camaraderie. It is a positive thing to carry around. We are positive as well when we chase. We will be backing our abilties.

Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper, Kane Williamson said:

I thought the first half with the ball was a really good effort. It was a bare surface, probably a 160 surface. We tried in the second half but never got going with partnerships. Unfortunate performance but credit to Delhi the way they played.

No, never any complacency in a tournament like this. Any team on the table can beat anybody. For us, it’s about executing our plans and play our style of cricket. It’s one of those things. The two at the top of the order have been prolific. Delhi adapted well on this surface and used their changes of pace.
