IPL 2019: Match 48, SRH vs KXIP – Sunrisers Hyderabad Player Ratings
David Warner scored 81 in his final game of the season for SRH.
The 2019 edition of the IPL is nearing the business end of the season. With the playoffs drawing close, the race to it has become intense. In the recent contest between the Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Kings XI Punjab, the stakes were high as the result of the game promised to be a virtual knockout of sorts. The winners had the bounty of getting an inch closer to the playoffs, and the loser only had the prospect of depending on mathematics for their chances to make it through. As the action unfolded on the day, it was the Orange Army SRH that trounced the visiting Kings side in Hyderabad.
Having been asked to bat first, SRH got off to a rollicking start with David Warner and Wriddhiman Saha adding 78 runs for the first wicket. Another big stand beckoned as Warner stitched an 82-run stand for the second wicket with Manish Pandey. While Manish and Saha scored in the thirties, it was Warner’s 81 that put the hosts in a commanding position. A couple of lusty blows from Mohammad Nabi ensured that the Orange Army plundered 212 runs in their stipulated 20 overs.
The run chase demanded a Gayle storm, which never really arrived. With the big hitters like Chris Gayle, David Miller, Mayank Agarwal, back in the hut with low scores to their names, the target of 212 always looked like an uphill task. For the Kings, it was KL Rahul who tried to hold the fort at one end, but the ask was a little too much for him to overhaul. For SRH, it was Rashid Khan who proved to be a match-winner with the ball again. His three-for dented the Kings in the middle overs. KXIP could only manage to score 167 in their 20 overs to concede a 45-run win to the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Here are the SRH Player Ratings for the match:
David Warner – 9.5/10
David Warner is currently topping the charts for most runs in this season of the IPL. The veteran Australian batter strengthened his claim as the holder of the Orange Cap with yet another defining knock for his side. Playing his final match of the season, Warner anchored the SRH innings with a brilliant 81 that came off just 56 deliveries. He hit a couple of sixes and 7 fours during his stay at the crease. The rest of the SRH batting lineup largely played around him in the innings.
Wriddhiman Saha – 7/10
Wriddhiman Saha retained his place in the playing eleven as the wicketkeeper-batter. Saha was promoted up the order in this game, and he opened the batting with David Warner. The duo provided a magnificent start to the Sunrisers, adding 78 runs off just 38 deliveries. Saha contributed with a quick 13-ball 28 with a six and three fours to his name. He looked in good touch with the bat.
Manish Pandey – 7/10
Manish Pandey extended his good run of form that he has caught in recent times. Pandey came in to bat at number 3 after the SRH openers had provided a solid start to the side. His task was to play second fiddle to David Warner, and ensure that he kept the scorecard ticking. Pandey did this with utmost ease as his stay of 25 balls fetched 36 runs for his side. Also, he was involved in a pivotal 82 run second wicket stand with David Warner.
Mohammad Nabi – 6/10
Veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi was back in the side for this particular game. With a launching pad well set for the Sunrisers, Nabi was promoted to bat at number 4 and he walked in to play in the 16th over. He faced 10 deliveries, and accounted for 20 runs of his side. He hit two maximums which were surely breathtaking. Later in the game, he contributed with the ball in hand, as he bowled 3 overs and returned with figures of 0/28.
Kane Williamson – 5/10
Sensing the need of the game situation, SRH skipper Kane Williamson realised that he should let the power hitters go ahead of him in the batting lineup. He came in to bat at number 5 and managed to pick up 14 runs for himself in the 7 deliveries that he faced. Williamson gets the credits for the way he used his bowling resources against the dominant KXIP batting lineup. His choice of bowlers looked ideal for the different situations of the run chase.
Rashid Khan – 9/10
Rashid Khan has made it a habit to be among the wicket-takers for the SRH camp. Yet again, Rashid finished his spell as the pick of the bowlers for the Orange Army. He wrapped up with 3/21 to his name in 4 overs, at an unbelievably impressive economy rate of 5.25. Mayank Agarwal became his first victim of the night when he tried to take him on. Later, he struck twice in the 13th over to get rid of David Miller and Ravichandran Ashwin. Earlier in the game, he had failed with the bat though, scoring just 1 after having come in as a pinch hitter.
Vijay Shankar – 4/10
All-rounder Vijay Shankar did not get an opportunity to contribute a great deal in this game. He came in to bat in the penultimate over of the game and faced only 4 deliveries, which yielded 7 runs for the side. Shankar, who is trying to establish himself as a number 4 batter for the national side, certainly would have expected more time at the pitch to strengthen his skills. He was not used with the ball either.
Abhishek Sharma – 3/10
Young Abhishek Sharma got a look in with both the bat and the ball in the match. Abhishek, however, had very brief and minor roles to play and his share was limelight was very curtailed. He would hope for better opportunities in the times to come. During his unbeaten 3-ball stay at the crease, he managed to pick up a boundary. With the ball, he bowled just one over and conceded 11 runs with no wicket to show against his name.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar – 2/10
It was not the best of the days for fast bowlers in Hyderabad, and the SRH spearhead Bhuvneshwar Kumar emerged to be no exception either. Bhuvi looked off-colour and was taken away for 34 runs in his spell of four overs. He could not contain the run flow in the death overs either, and KL Rahul and Simran Singh managed to tonk a few in his final over. He went wicketless in the match.
Khaleel Ahmed – 8/10
Khaleel Ahmed bowled a brilliant tight spell up front in the game. In the first over that he bowled, he managed to square up KL Rahul on a couple of occasions. He bettered his performance in the next over when he managed to dismiss Chris Gayle. The Jamaican’s wicket was very crucial in the context of the game. Later, he came back to bowl another over and dismissed Nicholas Pooran. In his final over, he took the wicket of KL Rahul. He finished with figures of 3/40 in his quota of four overs.
Sandeep Sharma – 7/10
Sandeep Sharma had a decent run with the ball in the match. He came in as a first change bowler and managed to get some assistance from the wicket. Despite the ball shaping both ways, Sandeep failed to pick up any wicket in the first three overs that he bowled. In his final over, he trapped Simran Singh lbw, and then cleaned up Mujeeb Rahman as well. He returned with figures of 2/33 to his name.
