IPL 2019: Match 54, RCB vs SRH – Royal Challengers Bangalore Player Ratings
With the defeat, SRH now have put their fate in the hands of the Mumbai Indians.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore played the spoilsport for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last league game for both the sides in the 2019 edition of the IPL. RCB, who were out of the race for the playoffs in the lead up to the game, beat SRH by 4 wickets to give the sea of red in Bengaluru something to cheer about after a disappointing season. While the RCB dugout was all smiles, the disappointment on the faces of the SRH camp was evident enough.
With the defeat, SRH now have put their fate in the hands of the Mumbai Indians. If Mumbai Indians beat Kolkata Knight Riders tomorrow, SRH will make it to the playoffs. Coming to this game, the visitors were asked to bat first after Virat Kohli won the toss for RCB. Martin Guptill (30) and Wriddhiman Saha (20) provided the visitors a great start. But the real backbone of the innings was skipper Kane Williamson. Williamson scored an unbeaten 70 off 43 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes to take SRH to a decent 175/7 in their 20 overs. The lower middle-order failed to provide a final flourish to the Orange Army.
In the run chase, RCB had a horrid start as their top three were back in the hut with just 20 runs on the board. Shimron Hetmyer and Gurkeerat Singh then added a marathon stand of 144 runs for the fourth wicket to put RCB in a commanding position. A bit of anti-climax followed with the two batters getting dismissed in the end overs, but it was a little too late for SRH’s fightback. The Royal Challengers Bangalore were over the line with 4 wickets in hand and four balls to spare.
Here are the RCB Player Ratings for the match:
Parthiv Patel – 1/10
Parthiv Patel had been the most consistent batter for RCB in the lead up to this game. The veteran operator failed to finish things on a high in the final game of the season for his team though. Parthiv was sent packing in the very first over of the run chase and had to contain with a duck against his name in the scorecard.
Virat Kohli – 3/10
RCB skipper Virat Kohli had a short yet very sweet stay at the crease in the match. Virat scored 7-ball 16 before edging one to the keeper off the bowling of Khaleel Ahmed early in the run chase. Before getting out, Virat treated the fans with a magnificent cover drive, and a nonchalant flick over midwicket that went for a huge six.
AB de Villiers – 1/10
With RCB openers, Parthiv and Virat, back in the hut cheaply in the run chase, the onus was on AB de Villiers to march on and take charge of the proceedings. The former South African international failed to do so and perished soon after following his fellow top order batters. He could only score 1 in the final game of the season.
Shimron Hetmyer – 9.5/10
After a long sabbatical, Shimron Hetmyer made a comeback to the playing eleven. Hetmyer had failed miserably in the first half of the season, following which, he was dropped from the playing eleven. On his comeback, the young Windies batter showed great skills to notch up his first IPL fifty. He was instrumental in guiding RCB home in the run chase. He scored 75 off just 47 deliveries with 4 fours and 6 brutal maximums to his name in the match.
Gurkeerat Singh – 9/10
Gurkeerat Singh had been underperforming in this season. But when the opportunity beckoned in this game, he did not let it go. He came in to bat at a time when RCB were reeling at 20/3. Gurkeerat batted along with Hetmyer to script the RCB’s victory in the match. He was slow to start off but soon picked up the pace to match the hitting prowess of Hetmyer. Gurkeerat scored 65 off 48 balls with a six and 8 fours to his name.
Colin de Grandhomme – 5/10
Colin de Grandhomme did not have a great role to play in the match. His services with the bat were not largely needed in this game. He remained unbeaten on 3 as Umesh Yadav hit the winning runs at the other end. With the ball in hand, he had only one over to bowl, in which he conceded 12 runs. The RCB skipper did not turn up to him thereafter in the match.
Washington Sundar – 8/10
Washington Sundar emerged as a promising talent in the previous edition of the IPL. This season, he was initially benched for a long period of time, and then finally got into the playing eleven. He remained largely ineffective until this game. He finished with 3/24 to his name to be the pick of the bowlers for RCB in the match. He ran through the SRH middle-order dismissing Martin Guptill, Manish Pandey, and Vijay Shankar. With the bat, he perished for a golden duck after hitting a reckless shot at a time when the team needed 8 off 10 balls.
Umesh Yadav – 3/10
Umesh Yadav had a forgetful time with the ball in this particular game. The veteran Indian pacer was given the new ball duties in the match. After a decent first over, nothing seemed to go his way in the match. The batters found him an easy target and took the attack to him. He conceded 46 runs in his four overs and failed to bag any wicket in the match. Later in the game, Umesh hit two crucial boundaries that finished off the game for RCB.
Navdeep Saini – 6/10
Navdeep Saini has been the most impressive Indian pacer in the 2019 edition of the IPL. Saini bagged two wickets in this game as well. He consistently clocked speeds in the vicinity of 140s and looked good with his pace. Much against his liking, he failed to contain the run flow in this particular game. He returned with figures of 2/39 to his name in the match. The two wickets that Saini bagged were of Wriddhiman Saha and Mohammad Nabi.
Kulwant Khejroliya – 6/10
Left-arm pacer Kulwant Khejroliya retained his place in the side and got another opportunity to show his strut at the big stage. He came up with a much-improved performance in this game and conceded 29 runs in his quota of four overs. He accounted for the wicket of Rashid Khan towards the end of SRH innings.
Yuzvendra Chahal – 7/10
Yuzvendra Chahal has been the brightest spot in the sinking ship of the Royal Challengers Bangalore this season. RCB struggled as a unit throughout this season, but Chahal emerged as a consistent top performer them. Chahal finished his season on a positive note with another economical spell. In the four overs that he bowled, he finished with 1/24 to his name and took the wicket of Yusuf Pathan. He finished with 18 wickets this season.
