IPL 2019: Most economical buys from the auction table

Just the way many anticipated, the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction threw many surprises to the fans. Whilst the franchises shelled out cash profusely on a few Indian talents, some other prolific names like Dale Steyn, Jason Holder, Eoin Morgan, Manoj Tiwary and Angelo Mathews found no buyers.

Varun Chakravarthy and Jaydev Unadkat were the biggest winners of the day, who were sold at Rs. 8.4 Crore to Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals respectively. English young sensation Sam Curran, who might be available for the whole of the tournament, went for a whopping Rs. 7.2 Crore for the Kings XI Punjab.

All the teams came in well prepared for a sensational battle and most of them ended up getting the desired result. While a few teams might reckon they paid a little too much for a few players, there were certain picks which were worth its weight in gold. 1. Jonny Bairstow (Sunrisers Hyderabad)

English cricket has undergone a drastic change, especially in its limited overs structure in recent years. One of the key cogs of that unit has been Jonny Bairstow, who remains to be underrated despite amassing brilliant numbers as an opener in the ODIs for the Three Lions. He has scored 1,649 runs in 96 T20 games at a strike-rate in excess of 125.

He went for Rs. 2.2 Crore to the Sunrisers Hyderabad, who are still hunting to replace Shikhar Dhawan. The quality he brings to the table is immense and even the SRH management would’ve been surprised to see him go for such a moderate price. He certainly was one of the picks of the day.
