IPL 2019: Samit Patel feels this is the year for him to feature in the tournament
'Hopefully, this is the year'.
The IPL 2019 auction is just around the corner. On 18 December 2018, several Indian and overseas players will go under the hammer for the upcoming season. Discarded English all-rounder Samit Patel is among the total of 346 cricketers who will have their fingers crossed. However, the Nottinghamshire cricketer seems to be highly positive about being picked in the auction.
Samit Patel is a seasoned campaigner. He is a left-arm orthodox spinner and more than a handy attacking lower-order batsman. But, his fitness and consistency issues have kept him at bay from the national team. He last played a Test for England in 2015 and didn’t feature in the limited-overs formats since 2013. Patel, though, has kept himself quite busy with various leagues around the world. He is a regular member in the Nottinghamshire side and is also a critical part of their plans.
Was close but this is the year
Off late, the 34-year-old has shown signs of good form. He fared decently well in the T20 Blast 2018 and had a good county season. But, he only got to feature in two games for the Rajputs in the T10 League this year. Patel seems to be optimistic about finding bidders for the upcoming IPL season. In a tweet, he said that he came quite close earlier on several occasions.
However, Samit failed to make it to the final cut. He wrote that he was looking forward to the auction and also termed IPL to be the world’s best league. Samit has featured in 238 T20 games in his career till date. He scored 4,458 runs at a strike rate of 125 and accounted for 199 wickets. His economy rate of 7.27 is quite impressive.
“Never played in the @IPL but I have been close a few years. Hopefully this year is the year. I am looking forward to see what happens in the auction. #worldsbest #india,” his tweet read.
