IPL 2019: Sarfaraz Khan has incredible hitting abilities, says KXIP captain Ravi Ashwin
Sarfaraz scored his maiden half-century of this edition's IPL against CSK.
Sarfaraz Khan was retained by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to play the 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), but he flattered to deceive. Subsequently, he was released and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) brought his services at a price of INR 25 lakhs. Punjab is currently at the bottom half of the points table, but Sarfaraz has been one of the positives for them.
The 21-year-old is presently the franchise’s leading run-scorer this season with 165 runs from four matches at an average of 55. Yesterday, he played a gutsy knock of 67 runs from 59 balls against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The youngster smacked four boundaries and a couple of sixes. Unfortunately, his efforts went in vain.
He has been in good form
The Mumbai-born cricketer came to bat after KXIP lost the early wickets of Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul, and stitched together a stand of 110 runs from 93 deliveries. In the meantime, Ravi Ashwin, the controversial KXIP skipper, heaped praises on Sarfaraz Khan and said the Young Turk wouldn’t have crossed the line, but he would succeed next time around.
“Sarfaraz is someone who has got incredible abilities to play well. And look what has happened today can happen to anybody because it is not one of those wickets when you come to CSK and it is easier to finish the game,” Ashwin was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation ceremony.
It is a wicket with a long boundary and it’s not going to be easy to hit sixes. He has been in good form and batting really well. I am sure the person who is not able to cross the line today will cross it tomorrow,” the off-break bowler added.
Punjab are next scheduled to play the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the PCA Stadium in Mohali on Monday, April 8.
