IPL 2019: Speedster Anrich Nortje ruled out of the upcoming edition
He was brought at his base price of INR 20 lakhs.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) is only a couple of days away and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have already been dealt with some massive jolts in the form of some injury concerns. In the previous edition, the Knights went through the same issue and hence entered the tournament as depleted. Subsequently, the team, captained by Dinesh Karthik, bowed out of the T20 tournament.
In a recent development, it has been learned that Anrich Nortje, who was set to don the Gold and Purple jersey, has been ruled out of the extravaganza owing to a shoulder injury. The bowler revealed the news through his Twitter handle. After an impressive stint in the Mzansi Super League (MSL), the right-arm speedster was brought by the Kolkata-based franchise at his base price of INR 20 lakhs.
More troubles for KKR
Apart from Nortje, the young and talented fast-bowling duo of Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi were also ruled out of the upcoming season. However, the Knights fraternity has managed to find their appropriate replacements. Even as Sandeep Warrier, the Kerala right-arm seamer was named as Nagarkoti’s replacement, Karnataka off-spinner KC Cariappa came in for Mavi.
As far as Nortje is concerned, he bowled with fire in the MSL, so much so that it caught the eyes of the fast and furious Dale Steyn. In the domestic T20 tournament, Anrich picked up eight wickets in three encounters. Soon after, he was handed over his maiden international cap in the home series against Sri Lanka, captained by Lasith Malinga.
The 25-year-old made his debut at the iconic Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg and has played four One Day Internationals thus far in which he picked up eight wickets. He is also a part of the T20I squad but didn’t play yesterday’s game at the Newlands in Cape Town where South Africa managed to tantalisingly edge past the Lankans in a super-over tie.
