IPL 2019: Sunrisers Hyderabad name Kane Williamson's deputy for the season
Sunrisers will play Kolkata Knight Riders in their first match of the IPL 2019 at the Eden Gardens on March 24.
The IPL 2016 winners Sunrisers Hyderabad named Kane Williamson their captain for the IPL 2018 and 2019 season. Former captain David Warner was banned for a year given his role in the ball-tampering scandal by Cricket Australia and missed the IPL 2018 as well; following that BCCI also banned him from participation in the IPL.
Kane Williamson led SRH admirably and took the team to the finals of the tournament and was also the Orange Cap holder for most runs in the tournament. However, the SRH team was defeated in the finals by Chennai Super Kings, who won their third IPL title. The Orange Army decided to continue with Williamson as the team’s captain and proclaimed him as the captain for the 2019 season. He also has a handsome record leading New Zealand in all formats of the game.
SRH names vice-captain of the team
Williamson recently suffered a shoulder injury during the Bangladesh Test series and underwent scheduled to undergo scans and medicals tests before joining the Sunrisers team for the IPL. However, his injury means that he might miss some matches for the SRH team initially and hence the team management have named a vice-captain.
Indian fast bowler and SRH pace spearhead Bhuvneshwar Kumar had represented the Hyderabad in the pre-tournament photo shoot with all other IPL captains on the eve of the 2019 season opener. This sparked the rumours of him leading the SRH team in absence of Kane Williamson and now it has been confirmed as Sunrisers Hyderabad officially announced Bhuvneshwar as Kane Williamson’s deputy for the 12th edition of IPL.
Sunrisers will play Kolkata Knight Riders in their first match of the IPL 2019 at the Eden Gardens on March 24 and with Williamson still speculated to miss the match, we might see Bhuvneshwar leading the Orange Army out against the purple warriors.
