IPL 2019: Tamil Nadu to decide if Chennai will be able to host the final
Hyderabad is the stand by venue for the final.
A lot has been going around regarding the venue for the final of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). With the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) winning the previous edition, according to the rules, the final and the first Qualifier is set to be played at the MA Chidambaram stadium. But the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) isn’t happy with the three stands being banned in the ground.
The officials of the board are set to meet the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) to make the I, J and K stands available at least for the playoffs of the IPL. The Chennai Corporation had closed those three stands as there were a few legal issues with regards to the permission when the stadium was reconstructed before the 2011 World Cup. With uncertainty hovering around those stands, the venue for the final is likely to be shifted to Hyderabad.
However, one of the TNCA officials feels that the final decision regarding the banned stands will be taken by the Tamil Nadu Government. Also, the BCCI feels that the three empty stands during the final will be a visual disaster.
Let us see how it goes
“We are making efforts. However, since it is the time of the general elections, the political leadership and the administration is very busy in their own spheres. Let us see how it goes,” the TNCA official said according to Business Standard.
The money earned during the playoff matches and the final goes to the BCCI and they don’t want to take any chance it seems. Three banned stands have the capacity of accommodating a total of 12,000 spectators. “See the thing is that the playoffs and finals are games where the revenue goes to the board. Unlike other games, the gate money from the knockout games goes to the board and we don’t wish to put them in a fix. The organisation’s position must also be seen,” the official further added.
