IPL 2019: The amount Shikhar Dhawan will be earning with the Delhi Daredevils
Dhawan will be making a comeback to the Delhi setup after a gap of 11 years.
India’s explosive left-handed opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan will be turning out for his home side Delhi Daredevils in the upcoming edition of the IPL. Dhawan was reportedly unhappy with the Sunrisers Hyderabad, the franchise for which he played for six years, with whom he lifted the IPL trophy in 2016. He insisted on switching to a different side for 2019 following his dissatisfaction on the financial deal. While the Delhi Daredevils are yet to confirm the deal with Gabbar, here’s how much the 32-year-old is expected to earn with DD.
Dhawan was earning a sum of Rs 5.2 crore, as opposed to a whopping Rs 12.5 crore that he was offered 2 years back when the franchise had decided to retain him. He was therefore in talks with the Mumbai Indians, a franchise for which he’d played earlier, and also tried to negotiate a deal with the Kings XI Punjab. Dhawan was offered a hike of only Rs 1 crore had he penned the deal with KXIP. But since the Daredevils came up with the more lucrative offer for the opener, Shikhar decided to come back to his home team.
Pant currently the highest earning cricketer at DD
Delhi’s highest-earning cricketer at the moment is youngster Rishabh Pant, who finished second on the list of highest run-getters in the 2018 edition of the IPL. Pant was retained for Rs 15 crore ahead of the 2018 auction, while DD also held back Chris Morris (11 crores) and Shreyas Iyer (7 crores). Now that they’ve also signed Shikhar Dhawan, Delhi have traded three players for the left-hander with the Hyderabad based franchise. Vijay Shankar, Abhishek Sharma and Shahbaz Nadeem were released for an aggregate fee of 6.95 crores, and will subsequently join the SRH camp.
Based on the fact that Dhawan was signed for a slightly better fee as compared to what KXIP had offered him initially offered him, he is likely to be earning an amount close to Rs. 7 crores with the Delhi setup according to Times Now.
Shikhar was a part of the Daredevils squad in the inaugural edition of the IPL back in 2008, where he played alongside Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir, before moving to the Mumbai Indians in 2009. He will hence be making a comeback to the Delhi Daredevils after a gap of 11 years.
