IPL 2019: The reason why MS Dhoni isn’t a part of the SRH game in Hyderabad
Sam Billings replaced Dhoni in the playing eleven for the game.
There’s absolutely no doubt in the fact that MS Dhoni has been a fulcrum of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ever since the inception of the prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL) way back in 2008. He has won three IPL championship for the franchise and even at the age of 37, he’s showing no signs of stopping. He may not be the same old Dhoni, but he is still a force to reckon with.
There have been very instances when the Jharkhand-born wicketkeeper-batsman has missed a game for the Men in Yellow. However, today turned out to be one such instance when he opted out of playing in CSK’s away match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad (SRH) and Suresh Raina, the stand-in captain updated about the same.
“Dhoni wanted to take some rest, he’ll be back in the next game. Karn Sharma comes in the side in place of Santner and as Dhoni is not playing, Sam Billings comes in for him,” Raina was quoted as saying after electing to bat first after winning the toss in Hyderabad.
The reason behind MS Dhoni’s ominous
Dhoni is generally very fit and doesn’t run out of steam. However, in CSK’s match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur, he developed a back spasm and was often seen sitting on the turf. He was clearly in discomfort, though the experienced campaigner didn’t allow it to affect him and went on to play a match-winning hand of 58 from 43 to take away the Player of the Match award.
Thereafter, he played the game against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens, but couldn’t make much of an impact, having scored 16 runs before perishing to off-spinner Sunil Narine. As far as the game versus SRH is concerned, CSK didn’t go into the contest under a whole lot of pressure as they are almost in the playoffs, having won seven of their first eight games.
