With the retentions getting announced, the IPL is back in the news. Fans are analysing the moves of the franchises as there have been some controversial decisions taken by the teams.
One team that has released some of the high profile names is the Royal Challengers Bangalore as they look to revamp their batting unit. The Bangalore based franchise has released Sarfaraz Khan and traded South Africa’s wicket keeper batsman Quinton de Kock to Mumbai Indians as well as Mandeep Singh who was involved in a swap deal with Kings XI Punjab as RCB secured Marcus Stoinis’s services.
Though the most surprising release was of Brendon McCullum. The veteran batsman was purchased by the three-time runners up for a whopping Rs 3.6 crores but failed to impress. He could only muster 127 runs in six innings at a paltry average of early 20s.
With the Kiwi being released RCB will be looking to replace him during the next month’s auction with some aggressive batsman.
Here we look at 3 players who can replace McCullum
1. Wriddhiman Saha
The first player in this list is Wriddhiman Saha. The experienced keeper from Bengal has represented several IPL franchises in the past including the Chennai Super Kings and was a part of their title winning campaign in 2011. He is also the first cricketer to score a century in the IPL final when he slammed an unbeaten 115 while plying his trade for the Kings XI Punjab against the Kolkata Knight Riders but unfortunately ended up on the losing side.
He will be an excellent buy for the Royal Challengers Bangalore although the side has Parthiv Patel as a wicketkeeper, Saha can still feature as a specialist batsman and create a platform for the middle-order, a similar role that Brendon McCullum played, and make sure that there isn’t too much pressure on AB De Villiers and Virat Kohli.
