The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had a terrible start to the twelfth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). They lost six games on the trot and it is still a tough ask for them to make it into the playoffs. The team selection has been quite baffling for RCB this year. Virat Kohli made many controversial choices this season. One of the biggest decisions taken by the management is the exclusion of Washington Sundar.

Sundar made his IPL debut in 2017 for the Rising Pune Supergiant. His highly impressive debut season helped him break into the Indian team in the same year. He represented India in 1 ODI and 7 T20Is thus far. However, injuries and loss of form plagued his career in the last year. The Tamil Nadu cricketer has worked extremely hard to regain his fitness and also played in the recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Where is Washington Sundar?

He scored 141 runs in six innings at an average of 28 in the tournament. Moreover, he also picked up 6 wickets and bowled quite economical spells. Even though he has performed well in the decently well in the domestic T20 tournament, Sundar has been overlooked for the RCB eleven. The team has struggled to find a quality Indian all-rounder in the middle order.

Many were of the opinion that he should’ve been included in the RCB eleven long time ago. But, he is nowhere to be seen which is quite surprising. If he is included in the playing eleven in place of someone like Akshdeep Nath, Sundar will be able to deliver four quality overs. He usually opens the bowling and is very economical in the powerplay.

This would have helped RCB save their resources for the death overs. But, this wasn’t done and Twitterati is absolutely perplexed by the decision. They have questioned Virat Kohli’s tactics and want Washington Sundar to be included in the eleven as soon as possible.

Here is how Twitterati reacted:
