IPL 2019: Twitterati reacts as Kieron Pollard startles Wankhede with a blinder to dismiss Suresh Raina
You can't keep Kieron Pollard away from pulling off blinders.
Mumbai Indians‘ all-rounder Kieron Pollard is one of the best in the business when he is on the field. No matter what position he is guarding on the field, he makes the region his territory and it is tough to breach. He goes around playing various T20 leagues all around the world and he has managed to stun the oppositions with his acrobatic fielding.
Pollard has got a terrific arm and is an excellent judge of a catch also using his height to great effect. He times his jumps to perfection and his long fingers and the big palms help him get hold of the ball with ease. The IPL has been lucky to witness some of his best efforts on the field in the last ten years or so. It was no different in IPL 2019 when the Mumbai Indians (MI) hosted the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Kieron Pollard stuns Raina
Pollard had a terrific night at the Wankhede. First, he delivered at a crucial situation with the bat when his team was under pressure. He entered this game under a lot of stress as he hasn’t managed to score runs in this season. His place in the team was under threat and needed to deliver at all costs.
The Caribbean cricketer was sent lower down the batting order than his usual position in this game. He was sent in to finish the innings and he did well by scoring an unbeaten 7-ball 17. He hit two sixes during his innings and this confidence translated into his fielding as well. First, he plucked a good catch to dismiss Shane Watson which was quite regulation for his standards.
But the catch of Suresh Raina was the best of the season so far. CSK was subjected to great pressure early on with Jason Behrendorff picking two quick wickets. At this point, Suresh Raina took the attack to the opposition. He hit two fours and one six and looked dangerous. Rohit Sharma placed Pollard somewhere between the deep point and deep cover region – exactly the place Raina was targetting.
The 31-year-old was standing a good 10 metres in front of the ropes. Raina smashed one ball exactly towards him but it was clearly going above him. Kieron Pollard leapt up full-stretch and took a one-handed blinder. He managed to keep his balance and the entire Mumbai camp was ecstatic after this catch. His celebration was a treat to watch.
