It took three weeks for three-time finalists Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to discover their first win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 when they beat Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) by 8 wickets in Bengaluru on Saturday. The RCB lost six of their first games and need to win all the remaining assignments to remain in the hunt for a place in the playoffs. The franchise’s debacle this year left captain Virat Kohli, also the captain of India’s national team, under immense pressure. Kohli has been leading the RCB for several years now but could only take the team to the final only once (2016) as his best success so far.

However, the welcome win on Saturday took take some of the pressure off and Kohli even revealed after the game that it is the role of his wife Anushka Sharma that has left a major positive impact on his life. Kohli takes break time and again from his busy international schedule to re-energise his batteries and spending quality time with his actor wife does him a favour to remain above things.

Kohli spoke to mate AB de Villiers, the man of the match of the game against KXIP with a 38-ball 59, for IPLT20.com during which he revealed how he manages to handle the mountain-high pressure in his career. He said Anushka, with whom he got married in Italy in December 2017, has helped him change his outlook towards life and maintain a balance.

“I think over the last year or so, the best thing to have happened to me is my marriage. It’s changed my whole world. I have the most beautiful wife, the most beautiful person,” the Indian captain said.

‘Anushka keeps me motivated, positive’

“That has been the most strong factor in my life to change the way I was. Before, I was too intense in life. She [Anushka Sharma] always keeps me motivated, positive and spend quality time with each other and get away from the game.” The former South Africa captain said stability, balance and a good wife is key to a good life and Kohli couldn’t agree more with his team-mate.

Kohli and de Villiers added a crucial 85-run partnership in less than 12 overs to overhaul the target of 174 in the final over of the game. Kohli scored 67 off 53 balls as the senior member of the partnership.

RCB next play MI at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday.
