IPL 2019: Want to contribute in the team’s victories at any role, says Kane Williamson
In the previous edition, Saha was too good on top and on Monday he scored 28 off 13 balls which was need of the hour.
Hyderabad: Kane Williamson set the IPL on fire during the previous edition where he ended up as the leading run-getter despite his team Sunrisers Hyderabad settled with the runners-up tag. The SRH skipper showed his T20 batting skills in a new frame and was applauded by one and all for leading from the front. However, the New Zealander has been far from his best during the ongoing season.
Williamson had been in and out for the first half of the season due to an injury he carried from the home Test series against Bangladesh. It played a role in his failures with the bat as he lacked momentum. However, the Sunrisers captain isn’t really worried about his batting form instead is happy to get on to the field with a motive of contributing to the team’s victories in any given role.
“It’s one of those things where suppose coming in today to score more runs but at the end of the day, you just try to contribute to the team as best you can. That has been my focus for every game that I played this season,” says Kane Williamson.
“It’s still great to be part of the team despite not having those bigger performances. Just having the mindset to go out and try to do what the team needs to the best of your ability.” He added.
Saha is good on top
One of the surprises moves from SRH in their game against Kings XI Punjab was promoting Wriddhiman Saha as an opener. Saha didn’t make it to the XI in the first ten matches but got his chance in the previous game after the departure of Jonny Bairstow. The Indian keeper-batsman couldn’t really do much batting at the death overs against the Rajasthan Royals.
However, against KXIP, Saha opened along with David Warner to add 78 runs for the first wicket in only 6.1 overs. Wriddhiman scored a 13-ball 28 comprising four boundaries and brought down the pressure. Kane Williamson said that they were aware of Saha’s batting skills in the T20 format while batting at the top.
“We sat down and drew some combinations. We know for a long time that Saha had success at the top of the order,” said Kane Williamson at the post-match press conference of the game between SRH and KXIP.
