The players from Jammu and Kashmir traditionally haven’t fared well in the cash-rich league. However, a new addition in the Sunrisers Hyderabad line-up would beg to differ. A find of Irfan Pathan as a mentor of J&K cricket team, Abdul Samad has an exciting IPL season ahead of him.

The 18-year-old is an explosive batsman who can double up as a useful leg-spinner. Since David Warner has been reinstated as the skipper, the management may decide to drop Kane Williamson in favour of an overseas bowling option. This would open up a spot in the middle order and Samad might be selected ahead of Virat Singh and Priyam Garg because of his utility as a bowler.

In eight List A matches, Samad has scored 237 runs at a strike rate of more than 125 and has two wickets to his name. Meanwhile, in T20s, he scored 240 runs in 11 matches at an average of 40 and a strike rate of 136.36. He may prove to be a valuable addition for the Orange Army in the middle order.
