IPL 2020: Andrew McDonald likely to be the head coach of Rajasthan Royals
McDonald led Victoria to title win in 2016-17 season.
Andrew McDonald, the former Australian cricketer is tied with the speculation to coach Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2020. He is currently the most high profile active coach in cricket. Since his retirement, Andrew has diversely flourished his coaching career.
38-year-old never became a successful cricketer but his coaching cannot be taken for granted. The success of the former Aussie can be measured with his recent achievements as an in-charge. It is his sheer hard work after he retired from international cricket back in 2019.
Andrew McDonald approached by Rajasthan Royals
McDonald had claimed Sheffield Shield title in his maiden year as a coach for the Victoria in 2016-17. He was the head coach of Melbourne Renegades that won Big Bash League 2018-19 season. His schedule looks very tight as he has recently signed a contract with Birmingham Phoenix for the inaugural season of The Hundreds which is going to hit headlines in 2020. Although the association of former Aussie cricketer looks difficult because of his commitments. Andrew is also looked down as the national team coach in the near future.
He will be the in-charge of Victoria in Australia domestic treble that will see its final on 31st March whereas IPL kicks off from the 1st week of April. Indian franchise has an eye over him as a replacement for Paddy Upton.
Sources have told The Age that the Victoria coach went through the application process for Rajasthan. Big players like Steve Smith ad Ben Stokes featured in 2019 for Royals but the latest roaster that will take place on 19th December in Kolkata can bring in with more exciting talent in the team.
The best season of Rajasthan Royals came back in 2008 when they became the first team to win the IPL title under the captaincy of Shane Warne but after that, they have never tasted such success. Although, the franchise was debarred from 2016 and 2017 season after they got hit by the charges of betting.
Indian Premier League will be heading towards its 13th season and Mumbai Indians will be the defending champions in 2020.
