Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) can be called the arch-rivals in the Indian Premier League (IPL). They are among the top draws whenever the tournament takes place, being the two most successful teams. Even as the MI have won the championship four times, the Super Kings, captained by MS Dhoni, have gotten their hands on the trophy three times.
The two teams have also tasted success while playing in the defunct Champions League T20. The upcoming edition of the IPL is set to get underway on Saturday, September 19 and the teams were again engaged in a banter, this time off the field, adding to their healthy camaraderie. On Wednesday, September 2, Mumbai shared a fan-made video of a collection of some IPL moments.
CSK and MI involved in a hilarious banter
The clip had a popular Tamil song ‘Bigil’ running in the background. It was posted by a Mumbai Indians’ fan from Tamil Nadu. Thereafter, the Super Kings came up with a humourous response. The Yellow Army posted a photo of legendary actor Rajinikanth from his blockbuster ‘Baasha’.
CSK captioned the picture and wrote, “Veikatum (Let them keep it).” The video starts with Lasith Malinga pinning CSK skipper MS Dhoni and former batsman Michael Hussey.

Interestingly, Malinga has backed out from the upcoming IPL citing personal reasons. The Sri Lankan fast bowler, not playing, can be a massive development for MI as he is the all-time leading wicket-taker in the tournament. In fact, in 2019, the veteran speedster trapped Shardul Thakur in front in the last ball to give Mumbai their fourth IPL title in Hyderabad.
Australian paceman James Pattinson has replaced Lasith in the squad. Last time when the IPL, partially, took place in the UAE, MI failed miserably. However, being the defending champions, a lot would be expected of the IPL franchise.
As far as CSK is concerned, they have had some turbulent times ahead of the IPL 2020. Members of their contingent, including Ruturaj Gaikwad and Deepak Chahar, tested positive for COVID-19. The chaos around Suresh Raina has made things a lot tense as well.
