Despite being in the latter phase of his career, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni is still regarded as one of the fittest Indian cricketers. The former India skipper is arguably one of the few players who’re known for stealing doubles from fielders at the boundary.
But Dhoni, probably for the first time in his glorious career, didn’t look at his best while running quick singles and doubles against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Hunting down a 164-run total against SRH on Friday, the CSK skipper was exhausted at the end and he was gasping for breath due to hot and humid UAE conditions.
The CSK captain also took a few breaks during the 19th over while batting until the end. But Dhoni’s valiant effort eventually turned futile as Chennai suffered a heartbreaking 7-run defeat. The franchise has been struggling this season, having lost three consecutive wins after clinching the tournament opener against defending champions Mumbai Indians.
Tried to get as much as time as possible: MS Dhoni
The three-time IPL champions are the most consistent unit since the league’s inception. After losing a close contest against SRH, CSK fans were left shattered by witnessing Dhoni’s agony on the field. In the post-match presentation, fans breathed a sigh of relief after Dhoni said that there isn’t much to worry as it happened due to the UAE weather.
“I tried to get as much as time as possible. It is quite dry out here. So, the throat gets dry and you start to cough. When you have legal signs, you can take some time off,” he said.
The Yellow Army holds the record of most appearances in the Playoffs (10) and the final (8) of the IPL. They are also the only side to qualify for the playoff stage in each edition of the tournament. Considering their impressive track record, it was a shock for CSK and their fans after they recorded three defeats in four games. They’re currently sitting at the bottom of the points table with just two points.
Following their drubbing against SRH, CSK’s social media team also shared a heartbreaking picture where Dhoni is seen struggling in the middle. The skipper, however, is anticipated to be fit before CSK’s next game against KL Rahul-led Kings XI Punjab.
