IPL 2020: DC pacer Anrich Nortje bowls a perfect yorker to uproot Rahul Tripathi's stumps
Losing the toss, the Eoin Morgan side was sent to bat first.
The two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are involved in a thrilling afternoon affair with Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on October 24, Saturday. The Knight Riders are running low on confidence as they were absolutely ravaged in their last game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
Falling prey to RCB’s brilliant bowling in the powerplay, KKR was reeling at 17 for four wickets. By the end of the 20 overs, the team could only manage to post a paltry total of 84 at the loss of eight wickets on the board. As a result, they ended up losing the game and also denting their chances of making it into the playoffs.
At present, the team is languishing at the fourth spot with just 5 wins from 10 fixtures. The match against Capitals is a must-win for KKR because the competition for the fourth spot is intensifying as the T20 Championship is heading towards its business end.
The Knight Riders would fancy getting back to the winning ways and strengthen their grip on the fourth spot before the other three franchises, who are placed towards the bottom of the table with 8 points, namely Rajasthan Royals, Kings XI Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad climb up the table.
Anrich Nortje provides breakthrough to Delhi Capitals
Losing the toss, the Eoin Morgan side was sent to bat first. Just like their previous fixture, KKR had a horrible start as they lost their first two wickets of opening batsman Shubman Gill and right-hander Rahul Tripathi. Delhi Capitals bowler Anrich Nortje, who was included in today’s match after being dropped for the fixture against Punjab as the management decided to opt for left-arm seamer Daniel Sams, showed his importance and claimed his spot in the playing XI by taking the first two wickets for his team.
Nortje took his first wicket of the game in his very first over by dismissing the most consistent performer of the opposition team, Shubman Gill. However, it was the wicket of Rahul Tripathi that stole all the limelight. After getting hit for 6 runs off the first 3 balls in his second over, Anrich Nortje made a perfect comeback by bowling a perfect yorker, clocked at a speed of 148.3 kmph.
Directed at the middle stumps, the ball uprooted the off-stump ending the innings of Tripathi. The 29-year-old could only score 13 off 12 deliveries in his short innings.
