IPL 2020: KXIP's Chris Gayle sheds light on his retirement speculations
On Tuesday, Gayle notched his second half-century of the ongoing tournament.
As the cash-rich cricketing carnival inches closer to the business end, it has been a tough time for fans witnessing the theatrics unfolding every night in the United Arab Emirates. From edge-of-the-seat-thrillers to the battle of sixes, the cash-rich contest has lived up to the billing in the true sense.
The shortest format of the game has predominantly been a power-hitters’ game ever since its inception. Eventually, it comes as no surprise to see Caribbean swashbucklers flourishing in the T20 extravaganza all around the globe. Therefore, the West Indies superstar, Chris Gayle has been a real entertainer with the bat over the years.
Currently, the 41-year-old is busy plying his trade for Kings XI Punjab in the UAE. Riding on the southpaw, who has 177 runs in five matches, KXIP have again put themselves as a contender for the playoffs after a rough start to the season.
In the match No. 46, Kings XI Punjab comfortably crossed the winning mark against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Batting first, the purple and gold outfit failed to set the strong foundation stone once again. Eoin Morgan and his troops went on to post a respectable target of 150 runs.
In reply, the opening duo- KL Rahul and Mandeep Singh- gave a brilliant start which later ensured a much-needed triumph without dropping much sweat. Chris Gayle and Singh made sure that Punjab get home without much fuss The former amassed 51 off 29 deliveries whereas the latter notched 66* runs hammering eight fours and two massive sixes.
Chris Gayle opens up on his retirement speculations
The self-proclaimed Universe Boss hogged the spotlight even after the end of the spectacular match. Putting an end to his retirement-speculation, the Jamaican stalwart made a fascinating remark much to the relief of his evergreen fans.
After the victory, IPLT20.com posted a video of Chris Gayle interviewing Mandeep Singh wherein the former stated that he has no plans to retire as of now.
Singh believes that the Jamaican should not retire at all. The 28-year old observed that Gayle hardly struggles and is always in excellent touch.
“He should never retire. He is always in great touch. I have never seen him struggle. He is probably the greatest T20 player ever,” Mandeep told in the post-match press conference.
Therefore, KL Rahul and his men appear to be in inexorable form after consecutive five wins. If they continue their outstanding touch, the team may find themselves on the podium after the end of the world-class tournament.
