Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) are now turning out to be a brute force to reckon with in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The team, captained by KL Rahul, have now won five matches in succession.

This time around, they defeated the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by eight wickets at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Most importantly, they went to the fourth position in the points table. Their victory pushed the Knights to the fifth in the table. Both teams are now locked at six wins from 12 games, but it’s KXIP, who have a superior net run rate.

After winning the toss and electing to field first, Punjab restricted Kolkata to 149. In the run-chase, Rahul’s men started in a cautious manner but didn’t allow the required rate to go up. KXIP are, well and truly, a contender for the playoffs.

Here are the KXIP Player Ratings for the KKR vs KXIP match:

KL Rahul- 6.5/10

KL Rahul churned out four fours in his 25-ball stay in the middle. But he could only manage 28 runs at a strike-rate of 112. Varun Chakravarthy trapped him plumb in front to cut short his brief knock.

Mandeep Singh- 9/10

Mandeep Singh was a tad scratchy to start with, but gradually as he got set, he made his start count. The right-hander stayed unbeaten on 66 runs off 56 balls with the help of eight fours and two sixes.

Chris Gayle- 9.5/10

Chris Gayle racked up his second fifty of the ongoing IPL and yet again, it came in a winning cause. He came to bat with KXIP in a tricky position. But he managed 51 off 29 balls with two fours and five sixes.

Nicholas Pooran- N/A

Nicholas Pooran didn’t have much to do in the game. He took the catch of Shubman Gill at deep mid-wicket to send the batsman back. He came to bat and stayed unbeaten on two runs off three balls.

Glenn Maxwell- 7/10

Glenn Maxwell bowled a couple of overs in the mandatory powerplay and he didn’t disappoint by any means. In the second ball he bowled, he dismissed Nitish Rana, who was caught at short fine leg.

Deepak Hooda- N/A

Chris Jordan- 9/10

Chris Jordan, yet another time, was stupendous. In his four overs, he gave away only 27 runs with 11 dot balls. The veteran pacer also accounted for the wickets of Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy.

Murugan Ashwin- 9/10

Murugan Ashwin was excellent in the middle overs. In his four overs, the leggie went for two sixes, but he made up for them with 13 dot balls. He also bamboozled Kamlesh Nagarkoti with a googly.

Ravi Bishnoi- 9.5/10

Ravi Bishnoi was arguably the standout bowler for Kings XI on the day. The leg-spinner nipped out Eoin Morgan and Pat Cummins in the middle overs. He gave runs at five per over with a maiden over.

Mohammed Shami- 9/10

Mohammed Shami started in an emphatic manner, getting rid of Rahul Tripathi and Dinesh Karthik early. Then he came back to dismiss Shubman Gill, who was batting on 57. Shami also bowled 13 dots.

Arshdeep Singh- 5/10

Arshdeep was entrusted to bowl only a couple of overs. Among the specialist bowlers, he was the only one, who didn’t complete his quota. The left-arm pacer gave away 18 runs with five dot balls.
