Kings XI Punjab crashed out of the playoff race following their 9-wicket defeat in the hands of Chennai Super Kings on Sunday. In a must-win match, the KXIP’s top-order failed to score big runs but an unbeaten 30-ball 62 from Deepak Hooda got them to 153/6 in the 20 overs. Later, Faf du Plessis (48 off 34) put on an 82-run opening stand in just 9.5 overs with the inform Ruturaj Gaikwad (62* off 49). An unbeaten partnership of 72 for the 2nd wicket between Ruturaj and Ambati Rayudu completed the chase with seven balls to spare.

Tightest IPL edition ever:

6Chennai Super Kings’ victory during the CSK vs KXIP was their 6th win of the IPL 2020 which is now the first-ever edition of the IPL where all the teams won at least six games.


A hat-trick for Gaikwad:

1Ruturaj Gaikwad became the first player to score 50+ runs in three consecutive IPL innings for Chennai Super Kings. Before the unbeaten 62 during CSK vs KXIP, Ruturaj scored 65* against RCB and 72 over KKR.


A fifty after five years from Hooda:

62* – Deepak Hooda scored 2nd fifty of his IPL career while the first came was back in 2015 in only his 2nd match. Between these two fifties, Hooda played 65 matches in the IPL where he batted in 47 games.

62* – Deepak Hooda’s unbeaten 62 is now the highest individual score for the Kings XI Punjab in the IPL while batting at No.6 or lower position. The previous highest was 60 by Irfan Pathan during the 2010 edition against Deccan Chargers while batting at No.7 position.


A poor end to Rahul’s rich season:

129.34KL Rahul’s batting strike rate of 129.34 in IPL 2020 is now the lowest for any player in the Twenty20 history who has scored over 600 runs in a series/tournament. The only other player with 600+ runs in a T20 series/tournament at a strike rate under 130 was Mike Hussey who aggregated 733 runs across 17 innings in the 2013 IPL for Chennai Super Kings at 129.51 strike rate.

670 – Rahul’s 670 runs in IPL 2020 are the most number of runs scored by a Kings XI Punjab batsman in an IPL edition surpassing his own record of 659 runs which he amassed in 2018.


A six less season for Maxwell:

11 – Glenn Maxwell was dropped from KXIP playing XI for the CSK vs KXIP which ensured he ended the tournament without hitting a six. Maxwell played 11 innings in the tournament where he scored 108 runs from 106 balls with just nine fours.

Mandeep Singh (14 innings for KXIP in 2013) and Rajagopal Sathish (11 innings for MI in 2010) are the other players to bat 11 or more innings in an IPL season without hitting a six.


Gayle rolls his arms after four years:

2016Chris Gayle bowled the last five balls of the Chennai’s chase during the CSK vs KXIP. The last instance of Gayle bowling in the IPL was during the 2016 IPL final against SRH. Gayle had played as many as 39 matches in the league without rolling his arms in these four years.
