IPL 2020: MI skipper Rohit Sharma confident of Trent Boult playing in the final
MI made it to the final with a commanding win over DC in the first qualifier.
Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma has assured fast bowler Trent Boult would be fit to play in the final of the IPL 2020. The left-arm pacer picked up a groin injury during MI’s impressive 57-run win over Delhi Capitals in Qualifier 1 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai on Thursday.
Boult bowled only 2 overs before walking off the field in the second half of Delhi’s innings. The two overs, however, were enough for the New Zealand star to blow away Delhi’s top-order. In his very first over, he dismissed Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane for ducks to give Mumbai Indians a solid start. Delhi never recovered from those twin blows and eventually finished on 143 for 8 while chasing 201 for a place in the final.
But the stunning win was a bit marred when Trent Boult walked off the field due to the groin injury. However, Rohit Sharma said it was only a precautionary measure and he expects the Kiwi pacer to be back for the final on November 10.
“I have not seen him but he seems okay. I don’t think it’s a big problem. It is a big game coming up but we just wanted him to be okay for the next game, a three-day rest and he should be back on the park,” Rohit Sharma said at the end of the match.
Rohit Sharma lauds Bumrah and Trent Boult
The Mumbai Indians skipper lavished praise on pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult after their latest performance. Both the pacers were rested for Mumbai Indians’ final league game but it didn’t affect their form as they hit the ground running against Delhi. After Boult’s twin strikes in the first over, Bumrah dismissed Shikhar Dhawan for a duck too to reduce Delhi to 0 for 3.
Bumrah then went on to finish the game with his career-best T20 figures of 4 for just 14 off his four overs. Following his spell, he also took away the Purple Cap from Kagiso Rabada with 27 wickets so far — the highest by an Indian pacer ever in the history of IPL.
“When you have bowlers like Bumrah, it makes your life easy. And Bumrah and Boult are in top form. When they play for different countries and franchises, they have different plans. Hats off to them for buying into our plans and executing them so well,” Rohit said.
