The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have been dealt with a huge blow as their all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. He had injured his ankle during the team’s opening game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Monday. This is a huge set back for Marsh himself who was looking to make a mark in the shortest format after faring decently well in the ODI series against England.

He sustained an ankle injury while bowling his first over of the match and had walked off after delivering only four balls. Mitchell Marsh courageously came out to bat later at number 10 when the SRH needed around 21 runs in the last two overs. But he bagged a golden duck and in turn, possibly worsened his injury as he was not able to put any weight on his left foot. While RCB players supported him, the SRH physio had to come in to take him to the pavilion.

The official Twitter handle of SRH confirmed the news of Mitchell Marsh getting ruled out and also named West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder as his replacement.

Jason Holder last played the IPL back in 2016

An injury to Mitchell Marsh presents a great chance for Jason Holder to shine in IPL having last played in the cash-rich league back in 2016. He has played for the same franchise before but represented the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2016. He has also played for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) under MS Dhoni‘s leadership.

Overall, Jason Holder’s record is not great in the IPL with only five wickets to his name in 11 matches. In five innings he batted, the 28-year-old has mustered only 38 runs and will be keen on delivering this time around as an all-rounder. The SRH will be playing its next match against the KKR on September 26 and Holder will not be available for selection right away due to the Quarantine rules.

He will have to be quarantined for six days as the cricketer was not in the bio-bubble and will have to test negative twice before joining the team in training.
