IPL 2020: RP Singh, Sreesanth laud MS Dhoni for his valiant efforts against SRH despite fatigue
The 39-year-old Dhoni scored 47 off 36 in a losing cause.
MS Dhoni batted at no.5 in the match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday, October 2 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The 39-year-old notched 47 runs off 36 balls with the help of four fours and one six, but he couldn’t take the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) over the finishing line. The Yellow Army lost by seven runs and it also happened to be their third loss in a row.
Dhoni came to bat after Faf du Plessis was run out and he also saw Kedar Jadhav, falling prey to Abdul Samad in the ninth over. However, MSD, instead of throwing in the towel, took his time and got his eyes in. He put on 72 runs for the fifth wicket along with Ravindra Jadeja, who scored a sparkling 35-ball 50 with the help of five fours and two sixes.
MS Dhoni trying his heart out
In the last over, CSK needed 28 runs to win with Dhoni on strike, but they couldn’t get home. During the latter half of his knock, Dhoni was also seen fatigued and gasping for breath. Yet, he ran the singles and doubles with all his might. After the game, Dhoni also revealed how tough it was for him in he middle.
“I was not able to middle a lot of deliveries. Was trying to hit it too hard. When the wicket is slightly at the slower side, it is better to time it. Looking at outfield it was subconsciously coming to us to hit the ball hard,” Dhoni was quoted as saying in a post-match interview.
Dhoni has also garnered praises from RP Singh, the former Indian cricketer, and fast bowler S Sreesanth, whose seven-year ban recently ended.
Singh took to Twitter and wrote, “Dhoni tried his best despite not feeling well. But, this match for me was all about the confidence and promise of #PriyamGarg Garg. VVS Laxman bhai has been guiding the young man well.”
