IPL 2020: Sanju Samson reveals how Virat Kohli's advice changed his perspective towards cricket
Among the likes of Steve Smith and Jos Buttler, Samson has emerged as a vital player of Royals' set-up this season.
Sanju Samson has been in stellar touch in the on-going edition of Indian Premier League. Rajasthan Royals have registered victories in their opening two matches in IPL 2020 so far and Samson has played a key role in both the outings.
In their opening match against MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings, Samson set the stage on fire with his 32-ball 74. He smoked 9 sixes and a four during his carnage. He followed it up by delivering a match-winning 85-run knock against Kings XI Punjab as RR succeeded in hunting down a massive 224-run target at Sharjah. Among the likes of Steve Smith and Jos Buttler, Samson has emerged as a vital player of Royals’ set-up.
While hitting a purple patch, Samson revealed on Monday how Indian skipper Virat Kohli gave him a piece of advice which changed his perspective towards cricket. During a gym session, Samson asked Kohli about how he maintains such high fitness levels.
I kept asking Virat Kohli a lot of questions: Sanju Samson
“[I had] one amazing experience when I was in the Indian team. I was in the gym training with Virat Bhai (Kohli). I kept asking him why he puts so much energy into fitness, I kept asking him a lot of different questions,” said Samson in a virtual press conference.
“Sanju how many years will you be playing?` And I said, “I am 25 now so for ten years or so. He told me, “Then give everything to these ten years and you can have your favourite food from Kerala after that, but you will not be able to play cricket after these ten years so why do not you give whatever you have in these ten years?” Kohli told Samson during the interaction.
After his interaction with Kohli, Samson’s attitude and perception underwent a change and it eventually reaped him success. “That changed the perspective of my dedication to cricket. I was really happy to hear that from him,” Samson said.
Royals, led by Smith, have won both their opening fixture of IPL 2020. Eyeing to continue their winning momentum, Royals are slated to lock horns with Kolkata Knight Riders on September 30 at Dubai International Stadium.
