IPL 2021: 5 unsold players who can be picked later in the tournament

The grand IPL auction was concluded few day back with plenty of exciting moments. Chris Morris broke the bank and emerged as the highest auction buy in the history. Few names were even questioned as “overpriced”. The 2021 IPL auction started with a few maiden overs and slowly picked up the pace. A lot of uncapped players got chances and quite a few foreign players did not find buyers. All in all it was a decent auction with most of the teams getting their desired players despite being of higher prices. But they might need a player in the later stages. So many of the big unsold names can be picked then. IPL 2021: 5 unsold players who can be picked later in the tournament 1. Aaron Finch Aaron Finch. Despite all of this he has not proved to be that good and struggles to find the permanent spot in any of the franchises. Last year he played for RCB in his preferred role as an opener. He played well in patches but could not remain consistent as a result was released. In the 2021 auction he was not picked either. But he is a decent player who can open the innings well and take advantage of the powerplay. Openers have not been picked a lot this season and it is possible that teams might need them ahead in the tournament. So Finch can be a perfect choice. 2. Jason Roy Jason Roy of Delhi Daredevils in action. (Photo: IANS) English hard hitter and opener Jason Roy was not picked in the auction this time. He was a part of the Delhi Daredevils while he was part of the IPL last time. He is not a very fluent player of spin which might have gone against him. But he is a true game changer and his ability is great. He has played some good knocks in the IPL, if he gets in form and produces these kind of innings more, he can be picked by teams later on. 3. Alex Hales Alex Hales. (Photo Source: Getty Images) Right handed batsman Alex Hales was not picked in the auction either. With his recent form in the BBL many expected Hales to be picked for a very high price. He won the golden bat of the season in the BBL and also the fluent six hitter. He also played at number 3 for England in ODIs which proves his flexibility. Thus, if not as an opener he can also bat in the middle order providing stability. He can be the first choice replacement if a foreign batsman is injured. 4. Marnus Labuschagne Marnus Labuschagne. (Photo Source: Getty Images) The Australian all-rounder is in wonderful form this season. He was the top scorer in the Border Gavaskar trophy and also did well in the ODIs of the same tour. After that he returned to the BBL for the Hurricanes. There he put up complete performances with both bat and ball. Thus he is a versatile player and an asset. Any team looking for a spinning all-rounder should have definitely gone for him. Nevertheless he can definitely be picked later in the auction. 5. Jason Behrendorff Jason Behrendorff. (Photo: Sandeep Mahankal/IANS) The tall pacer Behrendorff was a part of the MI team two seasons back but has not been able to get his name big in the IPL. However he his getting better with his game with time. He played well in the recently concluded BBL as he picked 16 wickets in total. Also the skillset he puts forward, left arm fast bowler who can swing it both ways, and a good bouncer, is complete and similar to someone like Mitchell Starc. With bowlers being the winners in the auction, one would have expected him to get a bid but it wasn’t same. But bowlers might get injured in the long season or for workload management he can be in the reckoning.
