IPL 2021: Faf du Plessis has a terrible collision with Mustafizur Rahman in RR vs CSK game
The incident happened in the sixth over of CSK's innings.
Collisions on the cricket field can be very dangerous for some players and can have massive injuries which could even keep them out of the field for some time. Faf du Plessis knows a thing or two about them having suffered a collision in the Pakistan Super League earlier this year. That collision had forced him to rule himself out of the inaugural season of the Hundred.
Unfortunately for the cricketer, he faced a similar situation once again in the Indian Premier League 2021. Chennai Super Kings were playing Rajasthan Royals when the South African had an ugly-looking collision with fast-bowler Mustafizur Rahman. The incident happened in Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium, the venue where du Plessis’ collision in the PSL had happened.
Both the players were safe in the end
Speaking of the incident, it all played out in the sixth over of the innings. The CSK opener hit a slower ball from Rahman to the extra cover fielder and took off for a run. When the batter was about to reach the striker’s end, the throw came in from the fielder, Rahman went two steps behind to get hold of the ball. However, he didn’t notice that he was now standing in du Plessis’ path.
The batter then collided with the bowler as they both went down on the wicket. By the visuals, it seemed that du Plessis had hurt his neck while Mustafizur’s knee was in danger. Nothing too serious happened as the two players continued. The South African batter seemed a bit amused by the incident and it looked like he was blaming Rahman for the collision.
Faf du Plessis eventually got out in the next over for 25 runs from 19 balls. While Mustafizur ended a wicketless day by giving 51 runs from his four overs. He got some smacking in the last over, giving away 22 runs. It was courtesy of Ravindra Jadeja, who made 32 runs from 15 balls, and Ruturaj Gaikwad, who made 101 runs from 60 balls.
Their effort helped CSK finish on 189 for 4 after 20 overs. However, the Royals’ cruised to victory chasing down the score in the 18th over.
