Punjab Kings (PBKS) have managed to cease their three-match losing streak in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The team, captained by KL Rahul, beat the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) by nine wickets on Friday, April 23, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

The victory has taken the Punjab-based team to the fifth position in the points table. After electing to field first, PBKS bowled with precision as MI could only muster 131 for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs.

Barring Rohit Sharma, who made 63 with five fours and two sixes, no other MI batter could make a significant impact. In the end, PBKS chased the target down with 14 balls to spare. As far as MI are concerned, they kept hanging in the middle with two wins from five games.

KL Rahul- 9.5/10

KL Rahul played with a lot of maturity. Though he got to his half-century off 50 balls, his slowest, he made sure he stayed until the very end. He stayed unbeaten on 60 off 52 with the help of six fours and as many balls

Mayank Agarwal- 7/10

Mayank Agarwal smashed Krunal Pandya, but he couldn’t carry after scoring 25 runs off 20 balls with four fours and one six. He tried to hit Rahul Chahar downtown but holed out to Suryakumar Yadav.  

Chris Gayle- 9.5/10

Chris Gayle strained to get going in the early part of his knock. But as he got his eyes in, he stepped on the gas. The southpaw stayed unbeaten on 43 runs off 35 balls. His knock was laced with five fours and two sixes.

Deepak Hooda- 8.5/10

Deepak Hooda bowled three overs upfront and kept the batters in check. He bowled three overs and picked up the crucial wicket of Quinton de Kock. In his spell, the off-spinner only gave away a mere 15 runs at an economy of five.

Nicholas Pooran- N/A

Moises Henriques- 7.5/10

Moises Henriques bowled three overs and couldn’t get a wicket. But he didn’t let the batters get under his skin as he gave only 12 runs in three overs. He was hit for one four and he bowled nine dot balls.

Shahrukh Khan- N/A

Fabian Allen- 2/10

Fabian Allen didn’t quite have the day he would have expected to have. He turned out to be the most expensive bowler for PBKS on the day. In his three overs, the left-arm spinner went for 30 runs.

Mohammed Shami- 9/10

Mohammed Shami bowled his heart out, especially at the death where he didn’t give the batters much to work with. In four overs, he conceded only 21 runs and picked the wickets of Rohit Sharma and Krunal Pandya.

Ravi Bishnoi- 9/10

Ravi Bishnoi played his first game of the tournament and he didn’t flatter to deceive by any means. In four overs, he leaked only 21 runs and got the crucial wickets of Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav.

Arshdeep Singh- 6/10

Arshdeep Singh was a tad on the expensive side as he gave away 28 runs in three overs at an economy of 9.33. However, the left-arm fast bowler nipped out the wicket of Hardik Pandya.
