IPL 2021, Match 42: MI vs PBKS, Stats Review: New records for Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya's feat and other stats
Kieron Pollard became the 11th player to take 300 wickets in T20 cricket.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 continues to get more fascinating as we approach the business end of the competition. After three successive defeats, Mumbai Indians have finally opened their account. In a match full of twists and turns, the five-time champions defeated Punjab Kings by six wickets to remain firm in the playoff race.
Speaking of the proceedings, Mumbai Indians opted to bowl with the Abu Dhabi track being on the slower side. The Kings got off to a pretty decent start with openers KL Rahul and Mandeep Singh adding 36 runs for the first wicket. However, tables turned drastically after MI drew the first blood. PBKS suffered a batting collapse and lost four wickets inside 12 runs.
However, Aiden Markram and Deepak Hooda made some significant contributions as the Punjab-based outfit posted 135/6. Although the target didn’t seem daunting, the five-time champions had a hard time. Skipper Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav were out within the first overs. However, Quinton de Kock joined forces with Saurabh Tiwary and the duo rebuilt the innings.
With the scoring rate going up constantly, PBKS seemed in the hunt for the best part. However, Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard came to the party at the right time and dented the KL Rahul-led side’s hopes. In the end, MI won pretty comfortably with six balls to spare. While MI jumped to fifth place with this win, PBKS slipped down to the sixth spot.
