IPL 2021, Match 50: DC vs CSK, Stats Review: Shikhar Dhawan accomplishes multiple feats as DC win low-scoring thriller
Shikhar Dhawan became the second player after Virat Kohli to complete 900 IPL runs against CSK.
We have gotten into the habit of this. Haven’t we? Another day and another nail-biting game in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. With an aim of going at the top of the table, Delhi Capitals took on Chennai Super Kings in Dubai and accomplished their mission in a stirring manner. Rishabh Pant’s men clinched the low-scoring thriller by three wickets, going a step closer towards a top-two finish.
Coming to the proceedings of the contest, DC won the toss and invited CSK to bat first. Although Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis scored some quick runs in the initial overs, momentum shifted towards DC after the first wicket went down. Wickets fell in a cluster while the scoring rate was also choked. Fortunately for CSK, Ambati Rayudu came to their rescue and slammed a valiant half-century. As a result, the Men in Yellow posted 136-5.
Chasing the paltry total, DC got off to a flying start with Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw attacking bowlers from the outset. Although the latter was dismissed after scoring 18, Dhawan held one end with precision. Skipper Rishabh Pant and debutant Ripal Patel also chipped in with handy contributions. However, things got tricky after Dhawan got out.
Nevertheless, Shimron Hetmyer came to the party and played a handy cameo. He scored an unbeaten 28 off 18 balls as DC crossed the line in 19.4 overs, winning the contest by three wickets.
